In order to
continue my domestic themes with a multicultural twist, Houston’s
Cultural Arts Council awarded me an Individual Artist's Grant in 2003.
I was then able to illustrate childhood symbols in homes ranging from
Bangladeshi to Swiss to Russian. Nothing was set up; sweetened cereals
and dolly baths cut across cultural boundaries. MFA Houston‘s
Anne Wilkes Tucker noted, “They’re not about childhood.
They’re
about the way we live now.” My
point exactly.
